Cowboys LB DeMarvion Overshown said the defensive players met after Week 5’s loss to the Buccaneers. Dallas HC Brian Schottenheimer praised their players for showing initiative to make changes and be accountable.
“I love it,” Schottenheimer said, via ESPN. “I’ve said from the very beginning, the best teams I’ve ever been around are led by the locker room. And my information that I received from some of those guys that called that meeting, it was very productive. It was very open and honest.”
Schottenheimer is confident that they will “get it fixed” defensively.
“The pride of that unit is strong,” Schottenheimer said. “There’s some really, really prideful men in that room, and we’re going to get it fixed. I have no question about that. But it doesn’t bother me at all. It means everyone’s rowing in the same direction trying to get this thing fixed.”
The Eagles have been hit hard by injuries, and multiple running backs, including RB Saquon Barkley, have missed time this season. Eagles OC Sean Mannion has leaned on the passing game and likes what he’s seen from QB Jalen Hurts, and he believes Hurts will keep growing in the system, especially in completion percentage.
“I don’t think it’s any one thing,” Mannion said, via Eagles Wire. “I think across the board offensively, we want to keep pushing to be better, and that’s in all phases. That’s run game, pass game. That’s us putting together the best plan possible each week. I think he is a naturally very accurate guy, so I’m confident that those numbers will continue to improve. His comfort level grows each and every week. Getting these live game reps week after week after week, he’s going to grow more and more comfortable. I think the good thing is he’s been making good decisions with the ball. Obviously, we had an uptick in our pass attempts last game and I thought he made good decisions with where the ball was supposed to go. I’m confident, because he is a naturally accurate passer, that those numbers will rise.”
Giants K Dominic Zvada missed three of five field goals in Week 5’s tie against the Commanders in rainy conditions. New York HC John Harbaugh said Zvada’s issues stemmed from his plant foot and wants the rookie to study his technique.
“The first thing is the obvious, and the thing you coach the most is the technique. So, it’s like any other position. There’s a technique to it,” Harbaugh said, via GiantsWire. “And when you watch the misses, the technique is not the same as the makes. And you can see it, and you just go through that. I think that’s the most important way to coach it. And then the other part of it is, okay, why? Because you know why. Talk through that and then make the correction and go forward. He’s good, and he’ll be thinking about that the next time. So, just like any other position, it’s just a different type of position, right?”
Harbaugh said ST coordinator Chris Horton helped Zvada with his plant foot, and the kicker understands what was happening.
“Chris Horton does most of that,” Harbaugh said. “I mean, I’ve been coaching that for a long time, so I can get involved in that. But I didn’t have to get involved in it this time. I mean, Chris did a great job with it. And Dom already knew, really, honestly. I mean, he actually knew before the game was over, after the game. He knew what he did. It’s just a matter of doing it right the next time.”
