Commanders HC Dan Quinn said that QB Jayden Daniels is mentally tough and knew he wanted to get back on the field quickly after last week’s end-of-game catastrophe.

“He’s such a mentally tough person that he’s very stoic a lot of times,” Quinn said, via PFT. “It’s honest conversations about where you’re at, how things are. The longer you get to know somebody, you know some of the signs and tells. For him, he’s somebody that definitely is back. Even through tough weeks, he is a really resilient guy.”

• Per Eric Williams, the late-game mistake from the Commanders in Week 5 will not impact QB Jayden Daniels getting a contract extension with the team. 

Cowboys

The Cowboys added Mike Pettine as a senior defensive assistant under DC Christian Parker, partially because of his familiarity with some coaches and players. Dallas DT Kenny Clark spent time with Pettine in Green Bay, and he likes his diverse fronts and ability to disguise coverages on the backend. 

“He’s going to pressure guys, get us to different fronts,” Clark said, via ESPN’s Todd Archer. “He does a lot of stuff, manipulating with the coverage and all that kind of stuff. So excited to have Pettine back.”

Giants

Giants DE Kayvon Thibodeaux is still seeking his first sack and tackle for loss of the season. Despite his lack of production, HC John Harbaugh said Thibodeaux’s impact goes beyond stats and has seen his quality on film. 

“I think you guys are underestimating what Kayvon’s bringing to the table,” Harbaugh said, via GiantsWire. “The plays that he’s making and the contribution he’s making. Everybody wants to talk about stats. Stats are important. They’re production. That’s a big thing. But the tape is what tells the story. I think if you study the tape, you’ll see a lot of really good plays. A lot of very physical plays and a lot of good football plays. And production will come off of that.”

Harbaugh mentions how Thibodeaux factored into the final play of their 27-27 tie with the Commanders, where the edge rusher forced QB Jayden Daniels to run as time expired in overtime. 

“Pretty darn good play,” Harbaugh said. “That’s not in the stat sheet, though, is it? He took that throw away, and the quarterback decided to tuck it and ended up tying us the game. So, that was a great football play. And there were other plays like that. So, I would say he’s playing very well.”
