49ers LT Trent Williams‘ contract situation remains a looming topic as the 2026 NFL Draft creeps closer. When speaking to reporters at the NFL owners’ meetings, GM John Lynch said they are on the “precipice” of something happening with Williams. 

“[I] feel like we’re on the precipice of something good happening,” Lynch said, via Nick Wagoner of ESPN. “But we’ll see. Don’t want to make any statement that, like, ‘Hey, we’re right there,’ because these things have felt like that before. But I do feel like we’re in good communication and hopeful.”

Owner Jed York added that he has faith in Lynch and HC Kyle Shanahan‘s ability to figure out the situation. 

“I have trust and faith in John and Kyle that they’ll figure it out,” York said. “They’ll get it done.”

Rams

Rams HC Sean McVay can’t hold back his excitement when he is asked about star CB Trent McDuffie joining the team via a trade with the Chiefs this offseason.

“He’s got the ability to play field, boundary, star, he can play the dime spot if you wanted him to,” McVay said. “What he does do is he allows us to be able to move the hard downs around, be able to change the math in our favor. The more I get to know him, every time I talk to him, I just leave that conversation feeling better about myself just because of the way that he is, and I’m excited to be able to work with him.”

“He adds a lot,” McVay said of McDuffie. “I think first and foremost, that was a spot we wanted to be able to address. When you do something of that nature, you better make sure they’re checking every single box in terms of who they are as a human, what does the tape look like over the first four years of his career, who is he, how does he move, what’s he all about? And we had some inside knowledge based on [defensive backs coach] Jimmy Lake having been his coach in college. Obviously, what he’s put on tape and then what you hear about the human being and everything he represents, we felt like it was worth it.”

Seahawks

• Tom Pelissero reports that the Seahawks are hiring Jimmie Dougherty as an offensive assistant.
• Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald said WR Tory Horton probably won’t be 100 percent during spring workouts but he should be ready for the start of camp. (John Boyle)
• Macdonald was asked if DE DeMarcus Lawrence is still expected to return for another season: “To my knowledge he’s coming back. He always has the right to change his mind, but as of right now he’s coming back.” (Boyle)
• He was asked why they let CB Riq Woolen go and responded, “We didn’t let him go… [Eagles are] Getting a great player. We love Riq. He’s a great player. Just can’t afford him.” (Michael-Shawn Dugar)
• Colts HC Shane Steichen outlined what the Seahawks are getting in new S Rodney Thomas II: “Very smart, cerebral. Did a lot of good things. He was the multiple [safety] on the back end for us and he was our personal protector on punt. But very smart guy, obviously an Ivy League guy.
