NFL Agents Acclaim Work of Steelers GM Omar Khan
Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The Athletic completed its annual survey of NFL agents this week, and Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Omar Khan came way with several compliments.

In the anonymous poll, agents were asked which general manager they found the most trustworthy, and Khan came away tied with the most votes, despite just over a year on the job.

“With a lot of GMs, you feel like you’re doing a deal, and they are focused on not looking bad with peers, or you wonder if he’s telling you the truth as to why the team is where they are,” one agent said. “With Omar, he’s just as honest as the day is long. He’s consistent and treats everyone with respect.”

Of course, Khan was the Steelers’ chief contract negotiator and salary cap expert before he was the team’s general manager, so he already has long-established relationships with agents that go well beyond his short tenure as GM.

“(Khan is) down to earth and never any issue with backtracking after agreeing to something,” another agent said.

Tied with Khan as most trustworthy was Buffalo Bills general manger Brandon Beane, followed by Indianapolis Colts general manger Chris Ballard and San Francisco 49ers assistant general manager Adam Peters.

Unsurprisingly, Khan did not get any votes when the agents were asked about the best overall general manager in football. Philadelphia Eagles GM Howie Roseman was the runaway winner there, with Kansas City Chiefs GM Brett Veach and Seattle Seahawks John Schneider following in second and third place.

Roseman, Veach and Schneider also tied as the NFL’s best talent evaluator, according to the surveyed agents.

The 23 surveyed player reps also anonymously answered questions about the running back contract market, teams with poor ownership, and whether Roger Goodell should remain as NFL commissioner.
