Since joining ESPN in 2018, Dan Orlovsky has cemented himself as one of the best NFL analysts in the business. However, he's not under contract for the 2025 season.
Orlovsky has a prominent role on ESPN's "NFL Live," but he also makes appearances on "First Take" and "Get Up." When he's not debating the network's top analysts, he's working as a color commentator for college football games. Suffice to say, he's very versatile.
After Super Bowl LIX wrapped up in February, Orlovsky hinted at taking a break from TV. Many people thought he'd leave ESPN for good since his contract is set to expire soon. His absence wasn't an extended one though.
Even though Orlovsky has returned to ESPN's programming, he hasn't said much about his future. That all changed this week on "The Dan Patrick Show."
For starters, Orlovsky told Dan Patrick that he won't leave sports media behind for a coaching job.
"I felt in the last two years the closest that calling had come for me, as far as the desire and the pull," Orlovsky said. "And probably after this past four to six months, it’s subsided. And it’s probably the furthest I’ve been from that in a couple of years, just because of the reality of our life as a family. I’ve got three seventh-grade boys. I’ve got a fourth-grade girl. My wife likes living where we live. We’ve made really great friends in town. I don’t have the desire to uproot that with a want, rather than a need. Unfortunately, some people have to do that because it’s their only choice."
Orlovsky then said he wants to win a Sports Emmy for best analyst. He was just nominated for one due to his work with ESPN.
"I really love what I’m doing right now. I think this process of going through being nominated and being a part of last night, it kind of — I don’t want to say re-energizes because energy is not what I need — it makes me want to continue to climb things," Orlovsky explained. "I’m going to be honest with you, I was up for [best] analyst last night, as well. I was furious for not winning. Furious."
After hearing these remarks from Orlovsky, it's fair to say he won't be leaving TV this year. And truthfully, his best chance at winning a Sports Emmy is by re-signing with ESPN.
The real question though is whether or not Orlovsky will remain with ESPN. The two sides haven't negotiated an extension, but that could change in the blink of an eye.
