NFL Analyst Makes Bold Prediction For Detroit Lions In 2024
Kimberly P. Mitchell / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Detroit Lions are coming off of their best season in three decades, as they won the NFC North and made it all the way to the NFC Championship Game.

It represented the franchise’s first division title since 1993 and also marked its first playoff win since January 1992.

The dawn of a new era has surfaced in the Motor City, so much so that it has Lions head coach Dan Campbell boldly proclaiming that he sees a Super Bowl in Detroit’s future.

Fox Sports analyst Craig Carton understands why Campbell is so confident, and while he didn’t discuss the chances of the Lions making a Super Bowl run, he does think they will win the NFC North for the second straight year.

Carton makes some very salient points in his assessment.

The central point of his argument is that most of the games on Detroit’s schedule will be played in a dome, and for some of the other games that will be played outdoors, they will be in warm-weather climates.

Looking at the Lions’ schedule, they really will only have two games in cool weather: at Green Bay in Week 9 and at Chicago in Week 16. And if we are being honest, Week 9 is a fine time to play at Lambeau Field. It’s certainly better than seeing the Packers on the road in Week 15.

Carton notes that one of the knocks on Jared Goff is that he struggles in cold weather, but Goff really won’t have to worry much about that this coming season, and if the Lions are able to win the division and get at least one home playoff game, he won’t have to deal with it much (if at all) in the playoffs, either.

There is no question that Detroit should be considered the favorite to repeat as NFC North champions. Yes, the division is tough, as the Packers are knocking on the door, and the Bears look like they could pose problems in 2024. But the Lions just won 12 games and were one half of even passable football away from getting to the Super Bowl.

Let’s remember that Detroit held a 24-7 lead over the San Francisco 49ers at halftime of the NFC Championship Game. The Lions were that close.

Detroit is even considered by many to be the second-most likely team to represent the conference in the Super Bowl next February, with the 49ers being the favorites, of course.
