NFL Analyst Makes Bold Statement About Broncos’ Bo Nix
Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix is heading into a season in which plenty of fans and analysts have placed pressure on him to prove that moving on from Russell Wilson was a good idea.

Sean Payton’s new rookie hasn’t played a down yet in the league, but one NFL analyst appears to have at least one foot on board.

According to Heavy, PFF writer Dalton Wasserman “recently” called Nix the “reason for optimism” for the Broncos in a June 10 article. He also wrote that Payton likely sees some Drew Brees in his game.

“Broncos head coach Sean Payton identified Bo Nix as his franchise quarterback, likely seeing some similarities to Drew Brees in the process.”

Of course, Bo Nix has given some reasons for hesitancy. Nix was the last quarterback selected in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. One recent signal-caller selected in a similar fashion as the last quarterback in the first round was Mac Jones.

Most fans can recall how that turned out. The Jones era ended after just three years. He now serves as Trevor Lawrence’s backup in Jacksonville.

Bo Nix prepares for adversity-ridden rookie season

Nix has plenty of obstacles placed before him this season. While most veteran quarterbacks enter a season with goals that cannot be completed until months into the season, Nix has several quick ones.

The first goal will be to convince Payton that he is ready to start over veterans Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson. Ideally, getting that done before Week 1 would demonstrate that he has a high trajectory for the season.

Then, he’ll need to march into Seattle to take on the Seahawks in Week 1 and do something Russell Wilson failed to do. He’ll need to beat the Seahawks in their building.

Following that, he will need to defeat his predecessor in Week 2 as the Broncos host the Pittsburgh Steelers for what would be Nix’s first home game.

Put simply, the drama early on will be intense for Nix. That said, if he can somehow emerge as the Week 1 starter, defeat Geno Smith in Seattle, and then Russell Wilson in Week 2, it would be impressive. More importantly, it would go a long way toward slamming the book shut on the Wilson era, proving Payton correct.

After that, the Broncos will task Nix with facing Patrick Mahomes, and the conventional goals most veteran quarterbacks face.

Will Bo Nix start the era on fire?
