GLENDALE – Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. has been in the headlines the past couple of weeks for all the wrong reasons. Analysts, fans and others all have an opinion on why the second-year wideout is struggling. A new name to add to the ring is CBS Sports analyst Damien Harris, who had a long-winded plead to Harrison to fix his massive confidence issue.

Harris on Cardinals WR Harrison confidence issue:

“When you watch him play, he doesn’t play at a fast pace, he looks timid. His routes aren’t crisp, they’re not clean. He’s oftentimes unsure if he’s going to get the ball. Listen, Marvin Harrison, my brother, you are the number one receiver for Kyler Murray. You are the number one threat. You are the number one option that he has. So I think it’s a big confidence issue.

“He doesn’t look like somebody on the other end of Jaxon Smith-Njigba that knows that he’s going to create separations, that knows when the game is on the line, His number is going to be called and he’s going to get open, whether it’s on a hitch, whether it’s on a stop, whether it’s third down, like he just doesn’t look like he has that confidence.”

The first half of Week 4 was atrocious from the 23-year-old. Harrison was responsible for both of quarterback Kyler Murray’s interception vs. the Seattle Seahawks. Whether he stopped running routes, ran the wrong routes or just dropped the ball, Harrison had a half to forget.

The mental fortitude from the former fourth overall pick was commendable, as Harrison had five catches for 58 yards and a touchdown in the second half of that Thursday night game. Murray was proud of how he responded to the drops early in the game, which could be the turning point to build back his confidence.

Harrison was the sure-fire choice to be WR1 in the 2024 NFL draft class. However, with the success of other wideouts in that year’s class growing, the more pressure on the shoulder of Harrison. Head coach Jonathan Gannon believes his wide receiver will be fine, and regardless of Harris’ criticisms, Harrison has the support system and the tools to build back his stock.
