NFL analyst predicts Travis Hunter can make NFL history on both sides of the ball for the Jaguars in 2025

The NFL world is pumped to watch Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter play both sides of the ball in 2025.

What Hunter is striving to do is unprecedented. While there have been guys over the years that have played multiple positions, they haven't done so at the volume that Hunter will attempt, nor the quality.

It is not crazy to believe that Hunter will play at a high level at both WR and CB. He may eventually settle into one position more than the other, but he'll make an impact at each. That sentiment is echoed by NFL analyst Dan Parr, who listed Hunter as a candidate for Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year alike.

From Parr: "I know WR Brian Thomas Jr. is coming off his own highly impressive rookie year, and Trevor Lawrence has experienced some wild ups and downs so far in his career. I’m trusting Liam Coen to help Lawrence be the best version of himself, like Coen did for Baker Mayfield last year. If that happens, there will be plenty of production to go around, allowing both Thomas and Hunter to thrive. As Gladstone once said, “Travis Hunter embodies belief. ... He’s also a reminder that the boundaries of the game of football were built to be challenged.” Yeah, I’m on board for this flight."

The belief around the league is that Hunter's ceiling as a WR is higher than as a CB. The Jaguars also have a bigger need at WR, so that's where he'll likely get the most snaps. Lawrence and Coen are definitely going to have to do their parts in setting Hunter up for success. If Thomas Jr. replicates his rookie year and Hunter does in fact with OROTY, Jacksonville's offense will be explosive in 2025.

From Parr: "A handful of splash plays could make things quite interesting in this competition. If no clear difference-making rookie edge rusher emerges -- and no other rookie defender bursts onto the scene with a monster Year 1 -- a part-time CB who can take the ball away could become a very intriguing option for voters. Hunter did have nine interceptions in the last three seasons, including four in his Heisman-winning 2024 campaign. The Jaguars could have a formidable pass rush that creates hurried and/or deflected throws -- some of those passes are likely to end up in Hunter’s hands."

As Parr eludes to, this award could be won with quality over quantity. He may only be a partial contributor at CB, but if Hunter makes enough game-changing plays he could have a shot at landing DROTY. That would force the Jaguars to consider giving him more snaps on defense, but would certainly be a great problem to have. If Hunter somehow pulls off winning both awards, he'll make a push for becoming the new face of the league.
