Jordan Love will not be in action on Saturday as the Green Bay Packers host the Baltimore Ravens at Lambeau Field for a Week 17 matchup. The 27-year-old quarterback was ruled out for the game due to a concussion, which he sustained in the Packers’ 22-16 overtime loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday.
Love, who finished the game with 8-of-13 completed passes for 77 yards before his early exit, suffered the head injury after taking a hit from Chicago defensive end Austin Booker. The incident happened in the second quarter, and after being initially deemed questionable to return, Love was eventually ruled out for the remainder of the contest.
Love’s injury was caused by a helmet-to-helmet hit from Booker. The Bears DE sacked Love for a 7-yard loss in the second quarter, which was nullified after Booker was called for a personal foul. The Packers QB was down on the ground for a bit before slowly getting back up to his feet and being assisted off the field. Booker was flagged for unnecessary roughness, resulting in a 15-yard penalty against the Bears.
The NFL has reviewed the incident and has made a decision on Booker’s actions. The league announced on Saturday via the gameday accountability report that the Chicago DE has been fined $5,818 for a hit on the quarterback. Booker’s tackle was deemed excessive by the NFL Officiating Department, and he has been punished for a blow to the head/neck.
This is Booker’s second fine this season. In November, the second-year player was fined $5,818 for impermissible use of the helmet against the New York Giants.
As for Love, the Packers star was limited at practice throughout the week. There was some hope that he would be able to suit up on Saturday against Baltimore, but the nature of his injury forced Green Bay to have him sit out instead.
Love’s next chance to play will be in Week 18 against the Minnesota Vikings. The Bears, on the other hand, are in action on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers. Both the Packers and the Bears have already clinched playoff berths.
