Kareem Hunt and the Kansas City Chiefs stumbled out of the gate in the 2025 NFL season, losing their first two games. However, they bounced back in Week 3 with a 22-9 win over Russell Wilson and the New York Giants. Hunt has shared the backfield with Isiah Pacheco, recording 23 carries for 81 yards and one touchdown through three games.

Against the Giants, Hunt finished with 34 rushing yards and his lone score of the year. However, after scoring the final touchdown of the game with 6:02 remaining in the fourth quarter, Hunt celebrated with the "throat slash" gesture, leading to the officials calling a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, which was enforced between downs.

For his illegal celebration against the Giants, the NFL revealed on Saturday that Hunt has been fined $8,172 for his "violent gesture." He joins Travis Kelce, who was charged $14,491 in Week 2 for "taunting," as the only two Kansas City players to be fined this season.

"The NFL fined #Chiefs RB Kareem Hunt $8,172 for unsportsmanlike conduct/violent gesture — a throat slash motion after scoring a TD last week," NFL Network's Tom Pelissero wrote on X.

This is not the first time Hunt has been fined by the NFL. During the 2018 season, he was hit with a $26,700 penalty for an "illegal hit" on former Denver Broncos safety Justin Simmons.

While Hunt was the only NFL player charged for a violent gesture, 19 other players received fines in 2,550 total snaps in Week 3, good for 0.78% of all plays.

Up next for Hunt and the Chiefs, a Week 4 battle against Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET.
