The Detroit Lions suffered a shocking season-ending defeat in the divisional round of the 2024 NFL Playoffs at the hands of the Washington Commanders. And along the way, talented wide receiver Jameson Williams pulled out a controversial touchdown celebration that netted him a big punishment from the NFL.

Williams had an interesting outing against the Commanders. On one hand, he only managed to haul in one pass on four targets for a measly 19 yards. But he also picked up a 61-yard touchdown on his only carry of the game, which cut Washington's lead down to three points in the second quarter.

After Williams scored, he pulled off an inappropriate touchdown celebration that saw him thrust his body towards the ground several times. While he wasn't penalized for the celebration in real time, the NFL hit Williams with a $25,325 fine for using obscene gestures in his celebration.

"The NFL fined Lions WR Jameson Williams $25,325 for unsportsmanlike conduct (obscene gestures) — a PG-13 rated TD celebration in last week’s playoff loss to Washington," Tom Pelissero said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

This celebration from Williams is the latest head-scratching move from the third-year wide receiver. He's already been suspended twice, once for violating the league's gambling policy, and another time for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing drug policy, and he was involved in a controversial gun incident early in 2024.

As if losing this game wasn't bad enough, Williams now has to hand over a pretty penny to the NFL as a result of this celebration. With the league cracking down on what players can do in their touchdown celebrations, though, it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that Williams' actions netted him a fine.

With the Lions 2024 campaign over, though, Williams has the entire offseason now to come up with some touchdown celebrations that won't upset the NFL, which will hopefully help prevent him from getting fined in the future.
