The Monday Night Football matchup between the Carolina Panthers and San Francisco 49ers ended with some drama when safety Tre'von Moehrig and wide receiver Jauan Jennings got into a scuffle after the clock struck zero. Cameras caught Moehrig striking Jennings in what appeared to be the groin area.
The 49ers wide receiver was not happy and went up to Moehrig to confront him. He smacked the safety in the helmet, which led to a bit of a scuffle between the two teams. Based on the footage, it's easy to see why Jennings was upset, and now the NFL is stepping in.
The league has reviewed the footage and has decided to suspend Moehrig for one game due to the incident. However, the Panthers' safety doesn't agree with the decision.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Moehrig is appealing the ruling and will be heard by either Derrick Brooks, Ramon Foster or Jordy Nelson. Moehrig has never been suspended before, so he's not a repeat offender.
That said, the footage is hard to argue against. A suspension could be considered too steep a punishment, and his team could push for a fine, but the NFL does not like players making illegal hits on each other.
The Panthers are in the thick of a playoff race in the NFC, so losing their starting safety for any amount of time could be a big problem for them.
