NFL Announces Uniform Changes For Teams Playing Christmas Games

For some, the best Christmas gift they could receive is watching their favorite NFL team get a win. This year, that will come true for two fan bases, while two more might let the sting of a loss ruin their holiday.

The first game on Christmas Day will be between the Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers, starting at 1 p.m. ET, then move to the Baltimore Ravens against the Houston Texans at 4:30 p.m. ET.

At least one game has been played on Dec. 25 every year since 2020, but there will be a small change for every team this year.

According to Adam Schefter, the NFL recently sent a new memo claiming that each team will wear a special "holiday-inspired uniform patch" for Weeks 16 and 17.

The small patch will feature two candy canes forming an "X" behind the NFL shield logo, which will not have too much significance but is a great way to commemorate the day.

The NFL has extensive experience with similar patches. This year, every team that played on Thanksgiving had a special John Madden patch to commemorate the late coach and broadcaster.

Another instance of the NFL using patches is for every current player who's won the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. The winner is awarded a small patch of the trophy to wear on the front of their jerseys.
