NFL best bets: For Week 1, the futures are now

We've finally made it, folks. The 2023 NFL season is only one sleep away.

Before we dive fully into the Week 1 slate, though, we still have some time to click submit on some last-minute futures bets for the new season. Let's finalize our futures portfolio with three juicy props courtesy of our friends at FanDuel.

Most regular-season passing touchdowns: Trevor Lawrence (+1800 FanDuel)

This Jacksonville Jaguars offense is ready to explode in 2023. Trevor Lawrence has a dangerous crop of weapons at his disposal with Calvin Ridley, Christian Kirk, Evan Engram and Travis Etienne, and he's going to be chucking it a lot if Jacksonville's defense isn't improved from last season. Head coach Doug Pederson said in the offseason that he wants to average 30 points per game, and that won't be possible unless Lawrence has a special season throwing the football.

Most regular-season receptions: Amon-Ra St. Brown (+1200 FD)

We're sensing a monster year from Detroit Lions wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown. The 23-year-old racked up 146 targets and 106 receptions last season, and he should be in for even more work this year considering Marvin Jones Jr., Josh Reynolds and rookies Jahmyr Gibbs and Sam LaPorta are his only competition in the passing game.

Most regular-season rushing yards: Dameon Pierce (+3500 FD)

The Houston Texans figure to be a run-first team this year as they work rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud into the fold, and why wouldn't they with a guy like Dameon Pierce pacing their backfield? Pierce rushed for 939 yards in 13 games during his rookie season, and he went over 130 yards twice. Now with an improved offensive line in front of him, the Florida product could be in for a huge year on the ground.

In the news ...

Chiefs could be without Travis Kelce, Chris Jones in Week 1 — The reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs aren't starting the 2023 season on the right note. On Tuesday, superstar tight end Travis Kelce hyperextended his knee at practice, and his status for Thursday night's season opener against the Detroit Lions is now in doubt. If that wasn't enough trouble, their best defensive player, Chris Jones, is also unlikely to play as he continues his holdout for a new contract. The Chiefs have plummeted from -6 to -4.5 at some books.

Jose Altuve makes history with three home runs in three innings — It's safe to say Altuve is seeing the ball pretty well right now. The Houston Astros second baseman cracked a home run in each of the first three innings Tuesday night, giving him a homer in four straight plate appearances and in five of his last six. According to OptaSTATS, Altuve is the first MLB player to hit four home runs in the span of four innings innings since 1894. The Astros are the favorites to win the AL at +240.

Chandler Jones rips Raiders in profanity-laced Instagram post — Las Vegas Raiders pass-rusher Chandler Jones isn't too happy with his employer right now. On Tuesday morning, Jones posted an Instagram story that read, "I DON'T WANNA PLAY FOR THE RAIDERS IF THAT'S MY HC, OR GM ..." There were also some off-color statements disparaging Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler. Las Vegas is +1700 to win the AFC West this season.
