NFL coach makes bold comments about Packers QB Jordan Love
Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

The Green Bay Packers are set to start a new era in 2023 with Jordan Love as the starting quarterback. Heading into Year 4, it is now his time to showcase his talent, as the Aaron Rodgers era looks to be all but done in Green Bay.

Rodgers has made his intentions for the 2023 season clear, as he intends to play with the New York Jets. Just like Brett Favre before him, Rodgers’ last act begins in East Rutherford while a late first-round draft pick takes over the helm for the Packers.

Love, like Rodgers, will have sat behind a Hall of Fame quarterback for three seasons before getting his chance to start. He did receive some mop-up and relief appearances during the 2022 season, which were much more encouraging than his spot start in 2021 against the Kansas City Chiefs.

During the 2022 season, while the sample size is very small, Love did find some success. His relief appearance of Rodgers against the Philadelphia Eagles drew the attention of his counterparts, as cornerback Darius Slay was very complimentary of Jordan Love’s performance.

Slay isn’t the only person that has been impressed with what he has seen from Jordan Love thus far. Former NFL head coach Mike Martz also made a bold comment about him, expressing a ton of confidence in the Nevada product.

That is certainly an eyebrow-raising comment from Martz, who coached some very good quarterbacks in his career. Hall of Famer Kurt Warner and Trent Green were both starters for him with the St. Louis Rams. Jay Cutler also found success with him while Martz was the offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears.

To be that confident in Love, given how little he has had to showcase his skills thus far, is certainly a bit surprising. But, Martz probably sees something in his preparation and how he handles himself during practice and in his few appearances that lend to projecting something greater.

The Packers have had wonderful success and luck with the quarterback position over the last three decades. They certainly hope Love continues that and is their franchise quarterback for years to come until the Jets come calling again in 2035 to acquire him.
