NFL Draft analysts re-graded the Seahawks' selection of Devon Witherspoon a year after the 2023 NFL Draft
Steven Bisig-USA TODAY Sports

In the newest episode of "The Football Room," James Foster turned back the clock to the 2023 NFL Draft.

After watching their rookie seasons, we re-graded the first 16 picks in the first round.

Which included the Seattle Seahawks selection of Devon Witherspoon with the fifth pick. This article will share how we graded the pick and some of what we had to say about Witherspoon.

James Foster: A

"I went with an A for Devon Witherspoon. I think he was one of the best rookies from this past season. The one thing keeping him out of the A+ range is that his job was a little bit easier than some outside corners. He's playing a lot in the slot with a lot of underneath zone responsibility. He's kinda like a glorified safety even though he played outside and inside."

Destin Adams: B+

"I ended up giving this a B+. I think Devon Witherspoon is a great player, and I think he's going to be a very successful player in this league. The only thing that keeps this out of the A range for me is because I think the Seahawks made a mistake not taking Jalen Carter. I like that Witherspoon is an aggressive style of corner, and he's the type of player that WRs are gong to hate playing against."

The Seahawks saw a bit of regression from 2022 NFL Draft pick Tariq Woolen, which made their pick of Witherspoon look even better, in my opinion. Witherspoon ended the year named to the NFL Pro Bowl and was one of the best players in the Seahawks' struggling secondary. This next year will be big for him, with the Seahawks needing better play from their secondary to stop the high-powered passing games in the NFC West.

Check out the rest of what James and I had to say about Witherspoon and the rest of the first half of the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft by checking out the episode now.
