NFL Draft bets: Finding hidden value bets ... Part 2

It's finally here. The first round of the NFL Draft. Things are a little quiet on the news front other than QB Aaron Rodgers has finally been dealt to the New York Jets. To be honest, there was a day last week I had to be reminded that it hadn't already happened. Overall, that is not going to impact the top of the draft that much even though they swapped picks as part of the deal.

At this point, I am looking less at what pundits are saying and more of what the betting markets are telling us (by way of changing odds) in our search for value. Here are some new bets to consider at this stage ... and why.

Bets to Look at: 2 Days Away

Under 4.5 Quarterbacks Taken in First Round (+164)
Four Quarterbacks Taken in the First Round (+200)

These bets are linked and neither has a premium which is why they caught my eye. Most mock drafts have Bryce Young, CJ Stroud, Will Levis, and Anthony Richardson going in the first half of the draft. The least likely seems to be Levis, but that is anecdotal as a lot of markets have him as the odds-on favorite to be the second player taken overall. The key thing here is: what about former Tennessee signal caller Hendon Hooker? The stats from the last couple of seasons are awesome but he is "old" and coming off a major injury. I think he is going to slide and here are a couple of nice payoffs that could cash when he does. It is interesting that the values for these bets are so disparate.

Under 5.5 Defensive Backs Takes in First Round (+140)

There are a few really good prospects at this position this year including some names that are likely to go in the top 10. However, most of the mocks I am seeing never get past five defensive backs and this is a position where there does not appear to be much buzz about anyone really "off the board." The pecking order feels pretty firm. The wild card is Georgia CB Kelee Ringo, who has projected high a season ago but has dropped pretty significantly. It is tough to see a DB as a late riser in the process right now

Philadelphia to Draft Bijan Robinson or Jahmyr Gibbs (+600)

The simple fact is that the Eagles have a loaded roster. I know there is a lot of buzz about not taking running backs early in the draft, and I get it, but I think that narrative misses the point, which is that the position is too risky to invest major roster dollars in it. That is not what you have to do if you are using players on their first contract and Philadelphia wants to win now. I bet Philly likes both players and also has the confidence to pull the trigger, especially if one is around with their pick at the end of the first round. Also, I am not sure it has to be a first-round selection for this one to cash as well.
