NFL Draft bets: Who will draft QB Will Levis?

One of the surprises from Round 1 was Will Levis's name not being called. The quarterback from Kentucky was widely regarded as a lock for the Top 10, and internet rumors started swirling that he was set to go No. 1 or No. 2 just a few days ago.

Instead, Levis sat in Kansas City all night and didn't hear his name, but that is sure to change early tonight with Round 2 beginning.

It's one of the only draft bets still on the board, so naturally we need to take stock of the situation and find us a logical landing spot for the young passer.

Odds to draft Will Levis

Odds are courtesy of DraftKings.

  1. Rams (+350)
  2. Titans (+350)
  3. Raiders (+800)
  4. Commanders (+1400)
  5. Seahawks (+1400)
  6. Buccaneers (+1400)
  7. Lions (+1400)
  8. Vikings (+1500)
  9. Patriots (+1600)
  10. Saints (+1600)

Clearly, teams are not as enamored by Levis as draft analysts were, and it's particularly noteworthy that no team felt it prudent to jump back into the tail end of the first round to draft Levis, which would give them the chance to have a fifth-year option on his contract. That type of thing comes in handy, see: Lamar Jackson in 2018.

The Rams and Titans are the leaders in the clubhouse to bring Levis to town, but before we explore which team makes sense, we should probably check tonight's draft order.

First 10 picks in the Second Round

  1. Steelers
  2. Cardinals
  3. Lions
  4. Colts
  5. Rams
  6. Seahawks
  7. Raiders
  8. Panthers
  9. Saints
  10. Titans

Now, the market for Levis is obviously not limited to these 10 teams, as we know how prevalent trades are. We can throw out the Steelers, Cardinals, Colts and Panthers from this list, all have invested in QBs and will be looking elsewhere.

The Rams do make some sense, an understandable favorite. Matthew Stafford is in the building, but he was unable to finish last season, and there have been murmurs that his playing career may be winding down quickly. Los Angeles sold the farm to win a Super Bowl, and while the result was a Lombardi Trophy, they are left with an uphill climb moving forward. Taking Levis would be a step for the future, where he can sit behind Stafford for a year, learn the offense, and perhaps bridge the gap as Los Angeles looks to retool and get back into the NFC mix.

The Lions have three second-round picks tonight, and Jared Goff has been a fine QB, but we're not sold on his ability to lead a Super Bowl team. Still, it's tough to imagine Detroit takes Levis tonight. Their Round 1 was head-scratching for sure, moves that feel very geared to the now rather than the future. A Levis pick would be off-brand based on their actions from yesterday.

We did like the Seahawks to take a QB in Round 1, namely Anthony Richardson, and we'll never know if they would have taken him since he was off the board by No. 5. Could Seattle take Levis here to sit behind Geno Smith for a year or two? The Seahawks had an awesome Round 1, taking the two best players at their positions: CB Devon Witherspoon and WR Jaxon-Smith Njigba. With two picks in Round 2, Seattle is well-positioned to use some of this capital on a developmental QB should they want to.

Tennessee and Las Vegas are both near the top of the board to nab Levis, and we do see a need for both teams. Ryan Tannehill and Jimmy Garoppolo are not long-term answers, but if these two teams believed in Levis, one has to think they would have taken him in the first round. Perhaps that's flawed logic, but these two may just not be sold on Levis as the answer and will continue building up their rosters, which both have holes throughout.

Ultimately, we're rolling with a pair of NFC West teams that are near the top of the board to begin tonight. Both don't need a quarterback right at this very moment, but likely will in a year or two. Round 2 makes it a bit easier to take a chance on a passer, and one has to wonder if the success that Jalen Hurts has found after being taken in Round 2 in 2020 is fresh in teams' minds.

Betting: Rams (+350) and Seahawks (+1400)
