NFL Exec Brutally Rips Into New York Giants QB Daniel Jones
Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Heading into the 2024 NFL season, the New York Giants decided to pass on adding a young quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft. Instead, they are rolling with either Daniel Jones or Drew Lock as their starter.

Just a couple short years ago, Jones put up his best NFL season and was rewarded with a massive four-year, $160 million contract extension. Unfortunately, the Giants made a massive mistake with that contract. Jones barely played during the 2023 NFL season and when he did he was bad.

As rough as that sounds, it’s pure honesty. Jones showed absolutely no signs of being anything more than a poor starting quarterback.

Keeping that in mind, the Giants are banking on Jones rebounding in 2024. If he can’t, they’ll turn to Lock, who they signed during NFL free agency to be their backup and competition for Jones.

NFL Executive Brutally Rips Into New York Giants QB Daniel Jones

Looking ahead to the 2024 NFL season, one former NFL executive did not hold back his thoughts on Jones. When speaking to NFL Analysis Network, he brutally ripped into the Giants’ quarterback.

“Daniel Jones is one of the laziest quarterbacks I’ve ever seen. He has shown no work ethic to grow and develop his game. It’s no surprise he’s arguably the worst starting quarterback heading into 2024 and is becoming one of the biggest draft busts in recent NFL history. If he doesn’t find a way to turn things around this year, he should never have another chance to start.”

During the 2023 season, Jones played in just six games before going down with a torn ACL. He completed 67.5 percent of his pass attempts for 909 yards, two touchdowns, and six interceptions. Those numbers were bad, even though he played limited time.

New York did go out and make a big move in the NFL Draft. They brought in their first true potential No. 1 wide receiver since Odell Beckham Jr. in the first round by drafting Malik Nabers.

While the criticism is founded when it comes to Jones, he hasn’t had great weapons to work with. Adding Nabers gives him a dynamic playmaker. It also eliminates some of the excuses that have been made for Jones.

At 26 years old, Daniel Jones is facing more pressure than almost any other quarterback in the NFL. If he doesn’t perform well, his NFL career could be basically over. Finding another team willing to give him a starting chance would be very tough to do after what has happened with the Giants.

All of that being said, we’ll hold more judgement until after the 2024 season kicks off. However, each and every week will come with added pressure for Jones to perform up to standards.

Hopefully, he’ll be able to handle the pressure and get his career back on track. The Giants could certainly use a stroke of luck and Jones rebounding would be the luck they need.
