NFL exec believes one Cowboy could net big extension

NFL exec points to potentially huge contract extension for Cowboys star

When evaluating the top of the NFL's wide receiver market in terms of the highest-paid players, it equates to some massive money to the league's most elite at the position. Names like Tyreek Hill ($30 million annually), Davante Adams ($28 million), Cooper Kupp ($26.7 million), A.J. Brown ($25 million) and Stefon Diggs/D.K. Metcalf (both $24 million per year).

But in a recent breakdown of the NFL's best wide receivers by ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, one high-ranking NFL executive sees a monster payday coming for Dallas Cowboys wideout CeeDee Lamb. To the point that the exec reportedly said Lamb is going to "be a top-of-market guy."

Assuming that proves to be true – and there's virtually no reason it won't be, such a deal could place Lamb somewhere in the mix of those top-paid receivers. Envisioning the Cowboys giving their young star pass-catcher somewhere between $25-$28 million annually seems like a realistic outcome, although his current market value on Spotrac comes in a bit below that.

The popular salary-cap website's tool projects Lamb to land at $22.5 million annually. That projection would place the Cowboys receiver as the No. 9 highest-paid receiver based on annual salary at this moment, ahead of D.J. Moore, Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, Chris Godwin and former teammate Amari Cooper. In that scenario, he'd be making less annually than only the top group listed above (as well as Deebo Samuel and Terry McLaurin).

When all is said and done, Lamb's extension should be on the higher end of most projections. When factoring in the rapport he's built with Dak Prescott and the fact that he's well on his way to emerging as a top wide receiver in the entire NFL, don't be surprised if the Cowboys back up the Brinks truck for the 24-year-old.
