ESPN NFL insider Dan Graziano recently raised eyebrows when he suggested that Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts could be entering a make-or-break season regarding Hurts' future with the organization this coming September.
It turns out Graziano isn't the only noteworthy member of the NFL community wondering if the Eagles could look to part ways with Hurts next offseason.
"Hurts I could see," one unnamed AFC executive recently said while speaking with Jeremy Fowler of ESPN about the Eagles possibly moving on from the signal-caller in 2027. "Polarizing player, and as his running ability starts to decline, his value will decline, too. And [Eagles general manager Howie Roseman] will always be proactive with finding solutions."
Hurts earned Super Bowl MVP Award honors for the club's championship victory in February 2025, and he signed a five-year contract extension reportedly worth up to $255M with $179.3M guaranteed back in 2023. He has also been the subject of numerous unflattering stories over the past few years, the most recent of which was published earlier this spring.
Additionally, some blamed Hurts for the offensive struggles the Eagles endured throughout the 2025 season and during the club's 23-19 wild-card playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers. It's also worth mentioning that some people in NFL circles think the Eagles may view 2026 fifth-round draft pick Cole Payton as an eventual replacement for Hurts.
For now, Roseman and Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni will spend portions of the summer hoping that Hurts will thrive in the system installed by new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion.
"I think he's going to play well," one NFC personnel evaluator told Fowler while speaking about Hurts. "He's had so many different coordinators over the years that he'll be able to adapt to the changes, and if the running game returns to form, [Hurts] throws it well over the top."
Hurts is undeniably the Eagles' best option at the position as it pertains to the upcoming season. That said, it sounds like some quarterback-needy teams could be ready to pounce if he again fails to impress and Philadelphia fails to notch a playoff win in January 2027.
