The Buffalo Bills’ season ended in controversy on Saturday against the Denver Broncos. It was a tightly contested affair at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver, with the divisional round matchup requiring an extra period to determine a winner. Josh Allen and Co. put up a good fight, but they ultimately came up short. The Broncos secured the win in overtime, 33-30.
It was a 23-yard field goal from Broncos kicker Wil Lutz that decided the game. This came after Bills cornerback Tre’Davious White was called for a contentious defensive pass interference violation in the preceding play. The infraction allowed Denver to push the ball to within field-goal range, which ultimately led to the game-winning FG.
With 5:24 left in overtime and the game tied at 30-30, Broncos quarterback Bo Nix went for a deep left pass on second-and-12 at Buffalo's 38-yard line. Nix's target was All-Pro wideout Marvin Mims, who battled White to get to the ball.
White won out, preventing Mims from making a catch close to the end zone. The referees, however, flagged the play for defensive pass interference against the Bills' star. The penalty cost Buffalo 30 yards, giving the Broncos first-and-goal at the 8-yard line.

White was incensed. He could not believe that the referees called a penalty against him at such a crucial juncture in the game. The two-time Pro Bowl CB refused to back down as he argued with line judge Rusty Baynes.
White ended up slamming his helmet on the ground in front of the game official. This resulted in an unsportsmanlike penalty against White. This further moved the ball for Denver to the 5-yard line.

Nix took a kneeldown in the succeeding snap to set up a 23-yard field goal attempt for Lutz. The Pro Bowl kicker made no mistakes, driving the ball right through the middle of the uprights.
White is now bracing for the NFL's punishment decision on his outburst against the Broncos. In addition to an automatic 15-yard penalty during the game, unsportsmanlike conduct violations are also subject to league fines. According to the NFL rulebook, such infractions can result in a fine of $14,491 for a first offense and $20,288 for a second offense.
For context, White has never been fined in his nine years in the NFL. The league's decision will be announced in the gameday accountability report, published every Saturday.
White played 16 games for the Bills during the regular season, registering one interception, 10 passes defended, 40 combined tackles (29 solo) and six tackles for loss. His one-year contract with Buffalo expired at the end of the campaign, and he will be an unrestricted free agent in the offseason.
