The Detroit Lions were able to sneak past the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, taking down their division rivals and securing the victory on a game-winning field goal.
Lions quarterback Jared Goff did not have his best game as the Lions offense only mustered 20 points, far below their average on the season, and he did turn the ball over for the first time, fumbling on the opening drive of the second half.
But still, even in a down game, Goff threw for over 300 yards and two touchdowns. The 32-year-old is playing some of the best football of his career, throwing for 1,788 yards on the season with 14 touchdowns and still no interceptions.
During the game against the Packers, there was plenty of controversy surrounding whether or not the game officials threw too many flags for roughing the passer. Green Bay was penalized twice for late hits on Goff, resulting in multiple 15-yard penalties.
Even though Green Bay likely feels they were unwarranted, the NFL still has to review both occurrences and make a punishment decision to see if either warrants a fine. One in particular is more likely than the other.
Packers defensive tackle Karl Brooks drove his head into Goff during the final offensive drive of the game for Detroit, tacking on 15 extra yards for the Lions and getting them right into field goal range.
Insane world we live in where this is considered roughing the passer on the Packers… pic.twitter.com/ACqfKWn0GQ

However, that may not be the only punishment Brooks gets, as he may have to pay up individually. Per the NFL fines and appeals schedule, roughing the passer penalties can result in a fine.
A first-time offense results in a $17,911 fine while a second offense is $23,882. If he is fined, Brooks will have the chance to appeal. The Lions will take the win however they can get it, and Goff’s consistency this season makes them a tough matchup every week.
