NFL futures, 2 Los Angeles Rams bets: Many challenges, lots of opportunity

Two seasons ago, the Los Angeles Rams won the Super Bowl. Not much has gone right since, and it's hard to find much reason for optimism as we inch closer to the 2023 season.

Rams high-level odds

  • Wins: Over 6.5 (-105) | Under 6.5 (-115)
  • To Win Division: +1000
  • To Win Conference: +4500
  • To Win Super Bowl: +6500

The Los Angeles Rams finished last season 5-12, dealing with an absurd amount of injuries all over the field in their attempt to defend their Super Bowl title. They went just 1-5 in their division and were forced to see Baker Mayfield, John Wolford and Bryce Perkins take snaps at quarterback.

Heading into 2023, the Rams are starting to really feel the effects of shipping out so many picks for players. Gone are Bobby Wagner and Jalen Ramsey. Gone is what feels like most of their Super Bowl-winning defense from 2021. Beyond Aaron Donald, this team has holes everywhere that they hope will get filled by young, unproven defenders.

Can Matthew Stafford stay healthy? There were murmurs that an early retirement was looming, but that is not the case as we approach the 2023 season. Brett Rypien and Stetson Bennett are the current backup options, so Los Angeles will hope they can get more availability out of both their QB and his offensive line, the latter of which contributed mightily to the poor 2022 result.

Two futures bets to make on the Los Angeles Rams

Under 6.5 wins (-115 DK)

Found under 'Team Futures'
Los Angeles is a quintessential example of the consequences that stem from going all-in. Let's be clear. It worked. The Rams won the Super Bowl. In that regard, the results justify the actions. But what is left is an extremely barren roster devoid of young, promising players to build around.

When healthy, Stafford, Cooper Kupp and Aaron Donald form one of the better trios in the NFL. Unfortunately, one has to worry about Stafford's ability to stay on the field, and you need far more than three stars to be competitive. The Rams draw the NFC East and AFC North this year, on top of games against the Seahawks and 49ers. It's extremely hard to project seven wins here when you look at what's left of this roster on both ends.

On the bright side, the Rams own their first-round pick again next season, set to make their first selection in the opening round since they took Jared Goff way back in 2016.

Third in the NFC West (+125 DK)

Found under 'Division Specials'
Alternatively, you could try threading the needle here and taking the Rams to finish third in the NFC West, the same spot they finished in last season.

This is a bet both on the rough outlook of Los Angeles' 2023 season, coupled with how you believe the other three teams in this division will fare.

We have already highlighted Arizona, and needless to say we expect a horrible year from the Cardinals. Meanwhile, San Francisco and Seattle are so clearly superior to the Rams, so barring injury, it's those two teams vying for the division crown.

That leaves Los Angeles to sit down here at third in the division, much closer to the worst record in the NFL than to a playoff berth.
