NFL futures, 2 Seattle Seahawks bets: Will Geno Smith, Seahawks repeat success?

Seattle was a surprise team in 2022 and will look to build on that momentum in 2023 with a roster built to win now.

Seahawks high-level odds

  • Wins: Over 8.5 (-165) | Under 8.5 (+140)
  • To Win Division: +195
  • To Win Conference: +1100
  • To Win Super Bowl: +3000

After trading Russell Wilson and handing the offense to Geno Smith, 2022 was expected to be a down year for the Seahawks as they bridged the gap before making a move for a new franchise passer.

Instead, Seattle got a career year out of Smith, who won Comeback Player of the Year. The Seahawks went 9-8 and clinched a Wild Card spot, losing to San Francisco in the opening round.

Back is most of this team. Kenneth Walker pairs with rookie Zach Charbonnet to form an extremely solid 1-2 punch at running back. DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett are both still here, and now they're joined by rookie WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba, arguably the top wide receiver in the 2023 draft.

The one hindrance on offense is likely the offensive line, but the team is hoping to see some positive development from their two young tackles as they both enter Year Two.

The defense has quality pieces throughout, and the return of LB Bobby Wagner should hopefully remedy what was a weakness defending the run in 2022. First-round rookie corner Devon Witherspoon is expected to slot in as a starter immediately, forming an extremely strong secondary that includes Tariq Woolen, Jamal Adams and Quandre Diggs.

Two futures bets to make on the Seattle Seahawks

To make the playoffs (-120 DK)

Seattle's win total is heavily juiced towards the over at 8.5, and if you can find a way to bet them to find 10+ wins at plus-money, I'd recommend loading it up.

Given the price on their win total, I'm surprised to see them priced here to clinch a Wild Card spot. Seattle has the fifth-best odds to win the entire conference and advance to the Super Bowl, and they should most definitely be secure with a playoff spot.

The NFC is by far the weaker conference in football, a repetitive theme in these previews, no doubt. The Seahawks made the postseason a year ago and only got better. Their two first-round picks in Witherspoon and Smith-Njigba figure to slot in as immediate contributors at key positions, and there's a lot to like here for Seattle.

They have some tough games on their schedule in San Francisco twice, the AFC North, and Philadelphia and Dallas, but flip the script and Seattle is an equally tough opponent for those teams.

They're well-coached and have been drafting extremely well for years. Watch out for the Seahawks in 2023.

Geno Smith to lead NFL in passing yards (+3000 DK)

Found under 'Player Futures'

Come on let's have some hypothetical fun here, this would be nothing more than a small wager. Smith finished eighth in the NFL last season in passing yards, which was still 1,000 less than Patrick Mahomes. Is he going to lead the NFL in passing yards? Most likely not, but I'd be OK with a sprinkle here on these odds given the weapons at his disposal.

Metcalf, Lockett and Smith-Njigba is a loaded group of receivers. It's going to open a lot of one-on-one matchups for all three, and each figures to be in for a few big games this season. Smith is of course the biggest benefactor here from a statistical viewpoint, and if his deep ball continues shining like we saw in 2022, why can't he pour on the yards?

Smith finished last year with 4,282 yards through the air. His normal over/under for the year is set at 3900.5 yards, which would of course be the safer route if you too are bullish on his possibilities in 2023.
