NFL futures: Keeping up with the MVP market

The NFL has just six regular-season weeks left as we hit December. With just a month and a half to go, it's a great time to take stock of some of the futures on the market, and we'll start with MVP today.

The current favorite: Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia (+115)

Jalen Hurts is the quarterback on the best team in the NFL, so it shouldn't come as a shock to see him top the MVP boards at this juncture. Around this time last season, Hurts was the favorite at -150 before missing two games.

Hurts makes this offense go, and while the Eagles have not looked their best, Hurts has now authored four straight second-half comebacks. He's thrown for around 2,700 yards and rushed for 400+ more, accounting for 27 total touchdowns.

Eleven of those have been on the ground, and while many are of the "Brotherly Shove" variety, he has his fair share of designed QB draw TDs from 10+ yards out, see: game-winning touchdown last week in OT.

Hurts accounted for five total scores in that massive win over the Buffalo Bills, tossing some absolute dimes to help Philly win.

Hurts has yet to win MVP and would offer the league a fresh face for the top individual honor.

In the mix: Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City (+350) & Lamar Jackson, Baltimore (+400)

As is so often the case, it's all about wins in this market. With the Chiefs and Ravens the two best teams in the AFC and the favorites to advance to the Super Bowl, it's not a surprise to see both quarterbacks near the top of the board here.

Mahomes has 21 touchdowns to nine interceptions and is currently seventh in passing yards. Jackson has a 13:5 TD:INT ratio, and he's chipped in 574 rushing yards and five rushing scores.

Both have already won MVPs, but we prefer the value on Jackson here if you'd like to hone in on an AFC passer.

Longshot to follow: C.J. Stroud, Houston (+1800)

C.J. Stroud has been simply fantastic for the Houston Texans. We are so on-board with Stroud as a legitimate top-10 QB in this league, consistently making plays for this offense in a surprising 6-6 season for the Texans.

The presumptive Rookie of the Year, Stroud isn't likely to win MVP, but he's entered the conversation, something not many would have thought back in April. Stroud is likely to be a popular 2024 pick, and a strong finish capped with a postseason berth might vault Stroud into the top-five finalists for MVP.

Our current pick: Jalen Hurts

If Jalen Hurts stays healthy and the Eagles finish with the top spot in the NFC, it's extremely hard to see him not winning this award. A game like Hurts just had against Buffalo, and all of these second-half comebacks, are a testament to his value toward this Eagles team.

It's very much Super Bowl or bust in Philadelphia right now, and as long as the wins keep coming, so too will Hurts's MVP odds shrink. This may be one of the last times to secure him at plus-money.
