The Houston Texans are in desperate need of a break early this season. Last year, the Texans didn't have their bye week until Week 14, and their injuries started piling in. The Texans' bad offensive play reflected just how bad their injuries were, too.
This year, the NFL rewarded them with an early bye week, as Week 6 will be the first time they see a week with rest, and the only time they do unless they secure the No. 1 seed in the AFC and get the first-round bye. But, even with the good of the Texans' 2025 schedule comes some bad, just like any team's schedule would.
For the Texans, they have one of the more brutal stretches in the league when it comes to starting their season. I guess there is always a trade-off with getting something good on your schedule. But the Texans have a long stretch of games that very well could see them winless.
Now, that's unlikely to happen, but with divisional rivalries, Super Bowl-competing teams, and road games, you truly never know.
With the bye week in Week 6, the Texans are set to really need that rest after playing some very good teams and some teams that will be physical in divisional rivals. They start their season with the Los Angeles Rams, a team that came the closest in the postseason to beating the Philadelphia Eagles, a team that won the Super Bowl. That could end up as a loss as the Texans open the season on the road.
Then, coming home, the Texans play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday Night Football, giving them an extra day of rest. That part is nice, but the Buccaneers are still a team competing for the Super Bowl and likely to win the NFC South. Not to mention, they go from Monday night on a short week, straight to divisional rival Jacksonville Jaguars on the road.
Sure, the Jaguars may end up being one of the worst teams in football, but this is also a rivalry, and we truly don't know what the Jaguars will be. This, along with the Buccaneers game, could be a loss. They could also both be wins. After the Jaguars, they go back-to-back divisional games, playing the Tennessee Titans next at home. The Titans will likely stink in 2025, so it should be a blowout. But, as we have stated a million times now, you just don't know with these types of games.
Next week, it's the Baltimore Ravens, who are the favorites, but also the team that really feels like they have a shot at challenging anyone and everyone for the Super Bowl. This will be a tough game, as the Ravens are always a tough game.
The bye week is next, and that kind of ends the streak of tough games for the Texans. But you could make a case that the next few games are also bad. But I would rebut with that, we don't know what the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers are going to be. But we do know the game after those, the Denver Broncos could be a huge one. Denver will have one of the best defenses in the league.
The Texans were dealt a bad hand there.
