Just two days after it was reported the Las Vegas Raiders would keep general manager Tom Telesco, they officially cleaned house.
The Raiders kicked off their week by firing head coach Antonio Pierce. He went 4-13 in his only full season as the team's leader. When that move was made, ESPN's Adam Schefter said Telesco would remain the general manager of the Raiders. The franchise hired him a year ago. Despite barely having any time to build the team in his image, he's already been kicked to the curb.
On Thursday, the Raiders announced that Telesco has been fired.
"The Las Vegas Raiders have relieved Tom Telesco of his duties as General Manager," the team said in a statement. "We appreciate his efforts in helping build a foundation for his future. We wish Tom and his family all the best."
According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Raiders fired Telesco because they want their coach ad general manager to have a "cohesive partnership." Her report made it seem like minority owner Tom Brady had something to do with this move.
"From what I was told, Telesco was fired mostly because ownership seems to prefer having the general manager and head coach more connected—like a cohesive partnership—rather than something that feels more arranged or forced," Russini said. "Brady has lots of influence in Las Vegas."
In his only year as the general manager of the Raiders, Telesco selected one of the best rookies the NFL has ever seen: Brock Bowers.
Bowers had an incredible rookie season for the Raiders, hauling in 112 passes for 1,194 yards and five touchdowns. He wasn't the only key member of the team's 2024 draft class. The Raiders also selected offensive lineman Jackson Powers-Johnson, cornerback Decamerion Richardson and linebacker Tommy Eichenberg.
Let's just say the Raiders have a lot of work to do this offseason.
