Just when we thought Terrion Arnold spilled the beans, the NFL tells us to think again. No, the Detroit Lions are not opening the 2025 NFL season against Ben Johnson and the Chicago Bears.
Instead, the Lions will travel to Lambeau Field to take on Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers in an early NFC North tilt.
The game will reportedly be at 4:25PM ET which very well could make it FOX's "Game of the Week," putting a national spotlight on the division right off the bat this coming season.
Clearly, the league liked what it saw in terms of viewership in last year's divisional matchups between the two teams.
Last season, the Lions swept the Packers. Much was made about former offensive coordinator Ben Johnson knowing just how to exploit Green Bay's defense. The new Chicago Bears head coach seemed to truly enjoy beating Matt LaFleur over his years in Detroit, and fans are hoping nothing changes in those matchups.
With Johnson now in Chicago, the Lions will turn to new offensive coordinator John Morton. Will Detroit's offense be able to stay as strong as it was under Johnson? That's a big question.
Last year, the Lions beat Green Bay by a score of 24-14 the first time and, when it came time for the rematch a month later, the game was much closer. Detroit still won, but the box score looked a lot closer as it was 34-31.
The Packers added some firepower for Love this offseason by drafting a wide receiver in the first round (something they never did for Aaron Rodgers) and also doubled-down with a receiver in the third.
Green Bay is hoping the two of them, Matthew Golden and Savion Williams, are what will put that unit over the top.
Whose offense will reign supreme in this one?
