NFL Head Coach Admits 'Tush Push' Should Be Banned

It's hard to think of a much more controversial play than the Eagles' "Tush Push" in recent years.

This offseason the Green Bay Packers put forth a motion to have the sneak play banned and it reportedly has some validity in the eyes of some of the members of the NFL's competition committee.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has remained pretty neutral on the play. But Buffalo Bills HC Sean McDermott made it very clear what he thinks of it — despite running it many times with his QB Josh Allen to a fair amount of success.

"Even though there's not significant data out there to this point, my biggest concern is the health and safety of the players," McDermott explained. "It's added force, number one, and then the posture of the players."

"I'm not a doctor, so I'm not gonna get too deep into that situation in terms of how much data, how much sample," the coach continued. "I don't think that's always really the best way to go. There's other data out there that when you're in a posture like we're talking about, that can lead to serious injury. I think being responsible and proactive in that regard is the right way to go."

"We're going to always act in a way that's best for the health and safety of the players."

We'll see how much weight McDermott's words carry when he and the other members of the committee convene to decide whether or not the push should be here to stay.

If it ends up going to a vote, 24 of the league's 32 NFL owners will need to support it in order for the ruling to pass. But we definitely know where the coach of one of the AFC's top teams falls on the issue.
