NFL Insider Adam Schefter Sets the Record Straight on Micah Parsons' Contract

With the Dallas Cowboys inking both Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb to massive extensions, next on the list in the eyes of many is elite pass rusher Micah Parsons.

The three-time All-Pro has racked up 256 total tackles, 52.5 sacks, nine forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries in his first four seasons en route to being viewed as one of the more dominant forces in the league.

However, just one day after Jerry Jones criticized Parsons for missing six games due to injury last season, ESPN's NFL insider Adam Schefter provided some context as to why the negotiations haven't progressed significantly. The key problem of course being the fact that the Cowboys haven't actually offered Parsons anything yet.

"He may know how the movie's gonna end, but it also helps to start that movie," Schefter said. "They haven't even submitted a contract proposal yet to Micah Parsons. So there are no negotiations. And so we may try and get to the end of that movie but there's a lot of movie to play. There's 2.5 hours to get through."

When asked about Parsons' contract on Monday, Jones seemed to throw a jab at both the star defender and Prescott in a comment that has since sparked major backlash.

“Just because we sign him doesn’t mean we’re gonna have him,” Jones said. “He was hurt six games last year. Seriously. I remember signing a player for the highest paid at the position in the league, and he got knocked out two-thirds of the year. Dak Prescott. So there’s a lot of things you could think about when you’re just as the player does when you’re thinking about committing and guaranteeing money.”

As expected, Parsons didn't love that comment, reposting a message from NFL legend, JJ Watt, who blasted Jones for his take on the situation.

Parsons is heading into the final year of his rookie deal, and will be paid a base salary of $24 million. If no agreement is made sometime this year, he can become an unrestricted free agent after the season.
