NFL Insider Drops Major Report On Cowboys, Dak Prescott
Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

The Dallas Cowboys have firmly stood by quarterback Dak Prescott and head coach Mike McCarthy for another season following last year’s playoff disappointment against the Green Bay Packers.

However, if their fortunes don’t improve, both Prescott and McCarthy could see their time in Dallas come to an end.

Prescott is coming off a stellar season, arguably the best of his career, and he’s entering the final year of his 4-year, $160 million extension signed in 2021. Despite speculation about his future with the team, it remains uncertain whether Prescott will receive another extension this offseason.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, there is a mutual understanding between Prescott and the Cowboys, even though formal offers haven’t been exchanged. Owner Jerry Jones has indicated, “We are where we are, locked and loaded for this year,” suggesting a sense of readiness for the upcoming season.

However, this statement doesn’t necessarily imply that a deal is imminent. Rather, it suggests an acknowledgment that if the season ends in disappointment once again, it might be time to reassess the situation.

Prescott would undoubtedly attract considerable interest on the open market and could command a contract similar to Kirk Cousins’ recent 4-year, $180 million deal with the Falcons. The real question is whether the Cowboys are willing to make such a commitment.

It’s clear from Jones’ remarks that Prescott needs to guide the team deep into the playoffs, ideally ending their 29-year drought of not reaching the NFC Championship Game.

Despite a relatively quiet offseason in Dallas, the message is loud and clear: the pressure is on for Dak Prescott and the Cowboys to deliver results.
