During Thursday's edition of "The Rich Eisen Show," NFL Network personality Rich Eisen spoke about supposed ceilings for multiple clubs heading into June and left little doubt that he's quite high on the 2024 Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
"I think the best case scenario for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this year is winning the Super Bowl," Eisen stated, per the JoeBucsFan website.
Tampa Bay began the 2023 season at 3-1 but fell to 4-7. However, the Buccaneers rallied to win five of their final six games to claim the NFC South division title. They went on to notch a 32-9 wild-card playoff victory over the Philadelphia Eagles before they suffered a 31-23 divisional-round loss at the Detroit Lions.
Tampa Bay had a chance to produce a game-tying drive late in the Detroit matchup.
"I think this team that had a possession to make it a really tight game for the Detroit Lions in the division round last year — you could sit here and say that they were on fumes, that they were basically running at maximum power — but they have a team that is being brought back, the chemistry is there," Eisen added about the Buccaneers.
Specifically, Tampa Bay general manager Jason Licht did well to largely keep the band together by re-signing key figures such as quarterback Baker Mayfield, wide receiver Mike Evans and safety Antoine Winfield Jr. this offseason. Meanwhile, the division-rival Atlanta Falcons made a huge splash in March by signing quarterback Kirk Cousins.
As of Friday afternoon, DraftKings Sportsbook listed the Falcons as the betting favorites at -105 odds to win the division title for the upcoming season. Tampa Bay was second on the list at +295. Also on Friday, DraftKings had the Buccaneers as a +3500 betting underdog to represent the NFC in Super Bowl LIX.
Eisen believes that Tampa Bay can earn up to two home playoff games and "shock the world" this winter. If nothing else, Mayfield and co. have a history of keeping receipts and then proving doubters wrong.
