NFL insider Ian Rapoport details why a blockbuster Micah Parsons trade to the Packers would make perfect sense

The Green Bay Packers don't tend to be an active trading team, but general manager Brian Gutekunst has shown numerous times that he would be willing to make a big move if the right opportunity arises. And that's the case with Micah Parsons , if the Dallas Cowboys truly put in motion any type of negotiation to grant the edge defender's request.

On Monday, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport talked about why Parsons on the Packers would make sense during his appearance on the Pat McAfee Show.

"I would expect that the Packers would be among the teams interested. And I would say I would expect the Packers would be among the teams really interested. They have paid Jordan Love. They have a bunch of really good young players, but there are some guys like Quay Walker they have not paid. Zach Tom, they paid. But they have money to spend, and they are really good. And so that's the kind of team that I would say, if Micah was going to be traded, that he'd be going to. Because it's like, we need one final piece. This guy is an absolute dog. He's worth all the money, so pay him all the money. I mean, God only knows what [agent David] Mulugheta would make that contract. It'd be all of it. But it'd be worth it, because you'd get Micah Parsons."

Parsons wants to be the highest-paid non-quarterback in football, which would put his salary yearly average above $40 million. The Packers would have to find a way out of their normal structure, as well, since the team usually doesn't give guarantees beyond Year 1 for non-quarterbacks.

But considering Parsons' market and his value, that shouldn't be a big issue—particularly considering that he is still a young player at 26.

The big hurdle in this case is that the Cowboys will probably not want to deal Parsons away, especially to an NFC rival. Any trade package would certainly have to include multiple first-round picks and more—plus the huge contract extension.

It's certainly a risky proposition. However, as Rapoport said, Micah Parsons is the exact type of player that an NFL team should make an exception for.
