NFL insider inadvertently caused some panic among Dallas Cowboys fans because of his comments about key rookie

The Dallas Cowboys social media universe hit the panic button on Wednesday when a clip of NFL insider Albert Breer discussing one of the team’s top rookies went viral.

During an episode of the MMQB, Breer and analyst Conor Orr discussed the Cowboys and during a segment going over the talent on the roster, they touched on third-round rookie cornerback, Shavon Revel Jr.

In that moment, Breer made a comment about Revel Jr.’s health that caught some fans by surprise.

“(Revel) is really interesting, it doesn't always work out, I know it's the easy thing to do, to sometimes pluck the injured guy,” Breer said. "And he had a little bit of a setback with his knee.”

Due to the lack of clarity of when the setback in question happened, many fans and even content creators reacted to the clip with surprise. After all, no news on Revel Jr.’s knee has been broken recently. Shortly after he was drafted, reports emerged on training camp being the timetable for his return from a torn ACL suffered in 2024. (link to this article) Since then, Revel Jr. has been a part of the Cowboys’ offseason program but has yet to take the field other than with the rehab group.

Breer clarified Wednesday evening on X: "This setback that I referenced happened in the fall. Everything has been on track since."

Based on the information from Cowboys’ OTAs and mandatory minicamp, it was obvious from the start. Even Breer’s tone when making the comment suggests he wasn’t breaking any news or saying something that wasn’t out there.

When Dallas picked him 76th overall in the third round, it was considered a significant steal. Perhaps a pre-draft setback explains why he fell so much in the first place.

With that being said, as long as Revel Jr. is ready to play at any point of the 2025 NFL season, it’ll be a win for the Cowboys. If it works out, they’re getting a sticky, prototypical cornerback to develop. For now, the question remains not only when will he return to the field but when will he 100%.

With other injuries at cornerback and lack of depth, the Cowboys need the rookie to be ready soon.
