NFL insider names the Colts as a team looking to make a big move ahead of the upcoming trade deadline

Like we all predicted (he writes with sarcasm), the Indianapolis Colts have the best record in the AFC South, AFC, and the NFL at 6-1 through the first seven weeks of the season. The team's offense has looked unstoppable with Daniel Jones under center. Yes, the same Daniel Jones that many laughed and criticized the team for naming their starting QB over Anthony Richardson.

With the trade deadline around the corner, it would make sense for the Colts to attempt to make a big move to capitalize on their early success. ESPN's Adam Schefter recently reported that the team is looking to make moves, and now another NFL insider has shared a similar statement. Bleacher Report's Jordan Schultz reported on Wednesday that the Colts are a team to watch ahead of the deadline as they are looking to add a "proven defensive playmaker."

Jordan Schultz reports that the Colts are looking to add a 'proven defensive playmaker'

This shouldn't come as a surprise to Colts fans who have been following along with our coverage of the team this season. The Colts' offense is too good for the team not to make sure their defense won't hold them back from making a deep playoff run. To get a little more specific, I would say if the team makes a move for a "proven defensive playmaker," it'll be at edge or CB.

The Colts' CB room has been riddled with injuries to start the year, and they haven't gotten consistent play from their second starting edge rusher. I think both are issues, and the Colts could use an upgrade if there were a way to add at both spots. I'm sure the Colts would be interested. But it's hard enough to pull off one trade in the NFL; the odds of completing two ahead of the deadline are slim (but not impossible).

For one major reason, I lean towards edge making more sense for the team. The Colts' CB room will improve once they see Charvarius Ward return from injury, and Jaylon Jones set to make his return soon. When the team is at full health in 2025, I'd expect Ward and Kenny Moore II to be joined by Mehki Blackmon, with Jones as the top reserve. The team's edge room has no one returning from injury to save them. So if the Colts want a considerable upgrade, it would have to come by them pulling off a trade.
