NFL insider predicts Packers' asking price for Aaron Rodgers

The Green Bay Packers will need to take a very serious look at whether they want to trade Aaron Rodgers this summer.

Retaining Rodgers at whatever price is necessary makes all the sense in the world when you are contending for a Super Bowl.

Unfortunately, when you miss the playoffs altogether like Green Bay did this season, Rodgers starts making a little less sense.

The big question around the league over the past few days has been: what would the asking price for Rodgers be at this juncture?

This past week NFL insider Peter King wrote on NBC Sports about what the Packers are expecting in return for Rodgers in any potential trade.

“Well, consider that Rodgers’ cap numbers in the next two seasons would be $48.3 million, combined,” King reported.

“That’s certainly manageable. As for the compensation due Green Bay, my guess is the Pack would want at least two first-round picks.”

That is certainly understandable. Despite some injuries and sporadically bad showings in the first half of the season, Rodgers was still one of the league’s best quarterbacks throughout the 2022-23 NFL season.

Obviously, at age 39 he doesn’t have a ton of time left in the league, but what little time he does have could be an asset for any franchise that feels it is one quarterback away from contending for a Super Bowl.

The New York Jets, for obvious reasons, have been mentioned as a potential candidate for Rodgers’ services.

That said, are the Jets willing to part with all the assets that will be necessary in order to attain Rodgers?

The answer to that question should emerge in the coming weeks and months.
