NFL insider predicts Pittsburgh Steelers make massive contract move
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

As the 2024 NFL season continues drawing closer, the Pittsburgh Steelers remain active in looking to make moves. They have been one of the busiest teams of the offseason thus far and it doesn’t seem like they’re done.

Mike Tomlin and company firmly believe that they have built a roster that can compete in the AFC. There is no question that the roster has improved from last season. Even last year, they ended up making the playoffs.

Now, they have a new quarterback room with Russell Wilson and Justin Fields leading the way and they have added talent to both sides of the football.

It does seem like another move may be on the horizon, according to recent reports.

Pittsburgh Steelers Predicted To Make Major Contract Move

According to Mark Kaboly of The Athletic, the Steelers are likely going to work out a contract extension with star defensive lineman Cam Heyward.

“I think they sign him to a multi-year deal within the next couple of months or so and move on from there. If you recall, I believe it was he signed a four-year deal three years ago now – very, very similar words came out of his mouth at that time. ‘I still want to play, if it’s somewhere else, oh we’ll have to cross that bridge when we get there.’ That’s just him playing the game right now and getting that out there. He’s not going anywhere. I could see him definitely finishing his career here.”

Heyward has been the heart and soul of the Steelers’ defense for years. Along with T.J. Watt, he has helped lead the unit to many years of success. Even at 35 years of age, he is a dominant presence on the line.

During the 2023 NFL season with the Steelers, Heyward ended up compiling 33 total tackles to go along with two sacks and a defended pass. He played in 11 games during the year. The numbers weren’t what the Steelers have come to expect from Heyward, but they are optimistic for a rebound in 2024.

It will be interesting to see what kind of deal the Steelers and Heyward end up working out. Pittsburgh can’t afford to overpay for an aging defensive lineman, but a two-year deal would make sense on a reasonable price point. Heyward will also want to capitalize on one last sizable deal.

Expect to see the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cam Heyward work out a new deal in the near future. Both sides are motivated to stay together and it seems very likely that this prediction will come true.
