For much of the offseason, the Indianapolis Colts have been hyping up a camp competition between quarterbacks Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones.

The former Florida quarterback was selected No. 4 overall just two years ago, but he’s already beginning to overstay his welcome in Indianapolis.

The organization has been tantalized by Richardson’s once in a lifetime potential, but he’s seldom been able to have it translate into real production.

The Colts are hoping that bringing in a seasoned veteran will hope push him to the next level, but they’re prepared to make a switch if that progression doesn’t take place.

Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated recently did a mailbag where he answered a bunch of questions from curious fans

In the article, he was asked who he believes will win the quarterback competition in Indianapolis and replied that he believes Jones will have the upper hand.

Breer thinks Richardson has been given a ton of chances already and doesn’t picture him making the most of his final chance to prove his worthiness.

While it’s true he hasn’t had to earn the starting job before, he should still be given a true shot due to his otherworldly upside and injury history which has delayed his development.

Jones’ play style also plays a huge factor into why Breer thinks he will win the starting job because he’s proven to be a somewhat reliable dual threat quarterback when surrounded by a structured team.

In his first year under former Coach of the Year Brian Daboll with the New York Giants, Jones set a career high in passing yards and completion percentage.

The successful season culminated in a playoff berth where New York beat the Minnesota Vikings in the Wild Card round before succumbing to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Divisional round.

Injuries and lack of offense talent have prevented Jones from having chance to build off that season, which is why he’s no longer with the Giants now.

The Colts begin offseason workouts next week, so we should get a better understanding of who has the edge in the quarterback battle soon.
