New York Jets running back Breece Hall has often been the lone bright spot for the team over the past four years. But with Hall heading into free agency, plenty of teams are ready to pay him big bucks to be their starter. Will the Jets be able to prevent that?
One NFL insider believes they'll at least try.
According to NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, the Jets are "weighing all options" on Hall's future, including tag options and a long-term contract. However, Fowler specifically mentioned the transition tag as a likely option. The transition tag would pay Hall $11.7 million in 2026.
"The Jets are weighing all options with Breece Hall’s future, including a tag and/or an effort toward a long-term deal. Some inside league expect the transition tag for Hall (around $11.7M), but that’s yet to be determined," Fowler wrote on X.

As a rookie in 2022, Breece Hall seemed primed for superstardom. Through his first seven games he recorded 681 yards from scrimmage and five touchdowns while averaging 5.8 yards per carry and 6.9 yards per touch. But a serious knee injury cut his rookie campaign short.
Hall returned in 2023 and picked up right where he left off, going for 1,585 yards from scrimmage and just shy of 1,000 rushing yards. 2024 saw his effectiveness dip considerably but he still ended the year with another 1,359 yards from scrimmage and eight touchdowns.
2025 saw him finally achieve that long-sought 1,000-yard rushing plane. However, there were rumors throughout the season that the Jets were ready to trade him to the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Jets couldn't work out an extension with Hall prior to the season, leaving him in limbo for 2026. Meanwhile, Hall has continued to indicate on social media that he wants out - or at least a better position to win games in 2026 and beyond.
As it stands, the Jets are going nowhere fast. They're primed to be a bottom-three team in 2026 regardless of what they do in free agency or the draft. With Hall still having his prime years ahead of him, no amount of money on earth might be enough to sway him to stay in New Jersey...
