The tush push lives on.
In a shocking outcome, the Green Bay Packers' proposal to ban the tush push did not receive enough votes at the league meeting in Minneapolis.
And ESPN's Adam Schefter provided some additional insight into the teams who sided with the Philadelphia Eagles.
The vote ended with 22 teams in favor of banning it, while 10 teams were not. The Packers needed 24 votes in order for the proposal to pass.
And among the teams who were not in favor were the Baltimore Ravens, New England Patriots, New York Jets, and Detroit Lions.
Out of those four, there is one team that actually comes as a bit of a surprise. And that's the Lions because Philadelphia remains some of their toughest competition in the NFC.
So, wouldn't they want to take away a play that the Eagles have a high chance of succeeding in? Apparently not, and you have to respect that. The Eagles made the play famous, and if there is no health risk, fair is fair. They have every right to run the play against teams. It's up to their opponents to find a way to defend it.
And that might be how the Lions view things.
It was reported prior to the official vote that even NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was in favor of banning the tush push.
"And when Goodell pushes for change, it usually ends up happening. One source said today’s vote is expected to be a close one," NFL Insider Jordan Schultz wrote.
But, when the vote fell short, the Eagles had a ton of fun on social media, trolling the Packers. They posted a photo of the team executing the play against Green Bay with the caption, "Push On." And then, they also uploaded a 26 minute compilation of tush push plays on their YouTube play.
They then made a bunch of other memes, writing "And Push On We Will."
