NFL insider reveals prominent NFC team was interested in trading for Steelers WR George Pickens during 2025 NFL Draft

George Pickens made it through the 2025 NFL Draft as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

But that doesn't mean he's in the clear just yet, as making it through training camp and the midseason trade deadline would prove he's in Pittsburgh for the year.

But one NFC team already tried to acquire him, and when you see their draft picks or lack thereof, there's a chance he still ends up there...

Cowboys Entertained Trading for George Pickens

I can just tell you, before the draft and during the draft, [the Steelers] were calling around, teams were calling them, there were conversations flying around about George Pickens. But I think it’s probably at this point not going to be something we see happen. George Pickens' name was tossed around in trade discussions this past week. The Cowboys were one of the teams that discussed bringing in the Steelers' wideout, sources tell me. But with the draft in the rearview, expect the trade buzz to cool surrounding Pickens

The report is a tad surprising, but not shocking given the news leading up the draft. Come the week of, we had murmurs of the Steelers listening to calls, even if Omar Khan had doubled down all offseason regarding Pickens being in Pittsburgh for the 2025 season.

"You need more than one receiver in this league, and we're fortunate we have George and Calvin (Austin) and excited about what Roman (Wilson) is going to be able to do for us," said Khan at the league owners' meetings less than a month ago.

That sentiment echoed what he said at the NFL Combine regarding Pickens' future, even though that was days before the Steelers made the blockbuster move to trade and extend WR DK Metcalf.

"I had a really solid exit meeting with GP [George Pickens] and I can tell you that he has a desire to be great. He has a desire to be great here. We have a desire for him to be great and to be great here," said Khan at the NFL Combine. "We'll see with respect to the contract, you know, we won't discuss that publicly and usually those things are addressed at a later date."

But the Dallas Cowboys left draft weekend with no WRs. They desperately need an option opposite of CeeDee Lamb and if they are serious about ponying up a day two pick come training camp, Pittsburgh could have a tough decision to make.
