The Washington Commanders were the subject of ridicule across the national media when wide receiver Terry McLaurin handed in a trade request. But leave it to the Dallas Cowboys to take center stage with their ongoing contract incompetence.
Micah Parsons practically said goodbye to the Cowboys on social media after handing in a trade request. The All-Pro edge rusher is not happy with the way Dallas has handled negotiations, almost completely refusing to go through his agent and making no formal offer as yet. Couple this with some bizarre press conference comments from Jerry and Stephen Jones, and it's not hard to see why frustrations were building.
And one NFL insider just said what every Commanders fan already knew about Parsons' true desire.
Benjamin Allbright from KOA 850 AM and 94.1 FM stated on social media that it's pretty common knowledge that Parsons wants to reunite with Commanders head coach Dan Quinn. The pair formed a strong relationship in Dallas, and they remain close to this day. There is a deep respect between the two, so they would probably jump at the chance to link back up and enhance their previously flourishing connection.
This would also solve a significant need for the Commanders. Signing future Pro Football Hall of Fame edge force Von Miller eased Washington's pass-rush concerns slightly, but it's only a band-aid fix. Parsons would be a long-term option at the peak of his powers. And his knowledge of Quinn's schematic concepts should make the transition seamless.
Seems simple enough. But unless Parsons stays put for two years or more to leave in free agency, it's not going to happen.
In-division trades are becoming more common. Adam Peters has dabbled in a couple himself since becoming general manager. But there is absolutely no chance — and I cannot state that loudly enough — that Jones would even take a call from the Commanders regarding Parsons' availability.
No matter how much the player might want it.
This is classic Jones. He always waits too long to pay his stars and ends up shelling out more money as a result. The billionaire owner doesn't seem bothered by it. He probably loves being in the media spotlight, even if it is for the wrong reasons more often than not.
It's a pipedream, but it's fun to think about. Parsons would be the missing piece between the Commanders going deep in the playoffs and winning a Super Bowl. But unless he makes things extremely awkward to find his way back to Quinn, he's either going to accept Dallas' extension when it arrives or land in the AFC. There is no in-between.
Still, it's nice to see Dallas being the laughingstock once again.
