NFL insider's latest Davante Adams comment rubs salt in the wound for Packers fans after hopes of reunion quietly collapsed

The Green Bay Packers considered bringing wide receiver Davante Adams back in free agency after he was released by the New York Jets earlier this year. Ultimately, it didn’t make much sense for either side.

The team wasn’t willing to spend too much money on an older receiver, and Adams is 32. Meanwhile, the player preferred to go back to the West Coast to be closer to his family — and got a strong two-year, $44 million contract from the Los Angeles Rams.

While the Packers did reinforce the wide receiver room drafting Matthew Golden and Savion Williams, not getting Davante back is painful for fans — especially after they read what ESPN’s NFL insider Jeremy Fowler had to write about him.

“Adams is 32, but he's still performing at a high level and rarely misses time because of injury. Many evaluators still consider him elite, while acknowledging that he might have lost half a step after 11 years in the league.” — Jeremy Fowler.

In his piece with insights from executives and scouts around the league, there’s a perception that the Rams will be able to maximize what Adams has left on the tank.

"Sean (McVay) can get really creative with him, because he's that classic outside receiver with size that you can also slide inside," an NFL personnel evaluator told ESPN. "It's a risk because (Cooper) Kupp was so good there for so long. But I see this as a slight upgrade."

A second-round pick in 2014, Davante Adams played eight seasons for the Packers, eventually becoming one of the best receivers in football. Back in 2022, Adams wanted a trade to a West team after tense contract negotiations with Green Bay. The Packers applied the franchise tag and moved him to the Las Vegas Raiders for first- and second-round picks.

Last season, Adams went from the Raiders to the Jets for a third-rounder and played at a high level — especially considering the circumstances. In 11 games in New York, he had 67 catches, 854 yards, and seven touchdowns.
