The Washington Commanders had immensely high hopes for Jahan Dotson. They believed he could be a legitimate No. 2 wide receiver option to go alongside Terry McLaurin long-term, but it wasn't to be.
Despite the flashes, Dotson's consistency was nowhere it needed to be. The Commanders' new regime recognized this, and he was traded to the division rival Philadelphia Eagles.
After failing to make any sort of impact in Philadelphia, although Dotson does have a Super Bowl ring to show for his efforts, the league is now catching on to what Washington's fan base has known for some time.
Kristopher Knox from The Bleacher Report didn't hold back after naming Dotson as the Eagles' biggest potential bust entering the new campaign. The analyst claimed this was his final chance to silence the doubters and repay Philadelphia's faith. Just don't bet on that scenario becoming a reality.
The Philadelphia Eagles traded for wide receiver Jahan Dotson last August, hoping that he would finally provide the reliable WR3 the offense has long lacked. Dotson finished the year with a career-low 216 yards and no touchdowns. Now entering a contract year, Dotson has one final chance to show that Philly didn't whiff by trading a third-round pick and two seventh-rounders for a fifth-rounder and the Penn State product. Given Dotson's pedestrian production (1,257 yards in three seasons) and the fact that the Eagles rarely involve their third receiver, don't expect that to happen.Kristopher Knox
Considering the low impact made by Dotson, the Commanders did exceptionally well to get such a good return for someone no longer fitting into the franchise's way of thinking. Unless there is a turnaround of epic proportions this season, the former first-round pick out of Penn State will be seeking a new home once again in 2026.
The Commanders were right to cash in on Dotson when they had the chance. Dan Quinn, Adam Peters, and Kliff Kingsbury allowed him an opportunity to change the narrative, but it didn't take long for things to turn sour.
At best, Dotson figures to be WR3 on Philadelphia's wideout depth chart behind the established duo of A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. Having some extra urgency should serve him well, but it's going to take something special to get a lucrative long-term commitment from the Eagles or another organization when free agency commences in 2026.
It'll be interesting to watch Dotson's progress from afar, but Commanders' fans will be hoping the same trend continues.
