There are plenty of reasons why Detroit Lions fans would have beef with the Chicago Bears, and justifiably so. We're talking about a bitter rivalry, here.
But, the problem here isn't necessarily with the Bears this time. It's with the NFL itself.
So far, the league has reportedly been scheduling the Bears for far more prime time games than Chicago deserves -- and all thanks to Ben Johnson, of course.
The Bears have had a busy and productive offseason after bringing Johnson over from the Lions staff. The new Chicago head coach has seen the Bears roster improved greatly over the offseason, but when will fans and the league learn that this is what they do every year?
A few schedule leaks have seen the Bears playing on Black Friday, a Saturday doubleheader and two Monday Night Football contests, and the full schedule isn't even complete just yet.
This just goes to show that the league is fully buying into Johnson's Bears. But, what it fails to realize is that Chicago doesn't deserve this type of treatment just yet. The NFL is calling their shot, and for all they know, the Bears fall flat on their face like they do every season.
The infamous "offseason champs" have struck again.
We do remember the hilarious notion that Bears general manager Ryan Poles put out there after he accepted the job three years ago, right?
He said the Bears were going to "take the North and never give it back."
So much for that idea, as Chicago has been bottom of the NFC North barrel ever since.
Apparently, the league seems to think the Bears are for real this time. It's tough to blame the NFL because of how much Lions fans know and came to love about Johnson, specifically.
But, it's still the Bears. Are we really going to do this same old song and dance yet again? Let's take a breath and maybe think about things a little further, first.
