Michael Strahan became one of the best defenders the NFL has ever seen during his 15 seasons with the New York Giants. The defensive end racked up 141.5 career sacks, including 22.5 in 2001, the single-season record. He also led the Giants to a Super Bowl XLII win on his way to becoming a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

After his NFL career, Strahan launched a television career in 2014, earning two Emmys on "Live with Kelly and Mark" before joining ABC’s "Good Morning America" as a co-host in 2016. He also serves as an analyst for "FOX NFL Sunday."

Beyond TV, he has also built a business portfolio, founding the talent management and production company SMAC Entertainment and creating a lifestyle brand that bears his name. He has also invested in numerous businesses, including Quest Protein Bars, Popup Bagels and Dave's Hot Chicken.

Drawing on his business experience, Strahan announced Monday that he will join Barbara Corcoran, Lori Greiner, Robert Herjavec, Daymond John, and Kevin O'Leary as a guest shark on the TV series "Shark Tank," set to appear on Wednesday's episode. The show, which debuted in 2009, has launched numerous successful products, including Scrub Daddy, Squatty Potty and DUDE Wipes.

"We're thrilled to welcome @michaelstrahan to the Tank! ," Shark Tank wrote on Instagram in a dual post with Strahan. "Catch him on an all-new episode of #SharkTank, this Wednesday at 10/9c on ABC and stream on Hulu."

Included in the post was an interview with Strahan, who revealed why he wanted to join the show.

"I want to be a shark because I love entrepreneurship," Strahan said. "I love to compete. I love to win. What I admire about 'Shark Tank' is that every time you watch it, you learn something. You learn a new question to ask. You learn a new way to look into a business. There's always someone to root for. I think that's the greatest joy in life, bringing people along, building people up. Life isn't always fair. Life isn't always easy. But there's nothing better when you see someone who has truly gone on to make it. It gives hope. And that's what 'Shark Tank' means to me."

Strahan is not the first athlete to be a guest shark on "Shark Tank." The show has also featured former MLB star Alex Rodriguez and NBA legend Charles Barkley. It also previously had former Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban as a full-time shark. Strahan will make his shark debut on Wednesday at 10:00 p.m. ET.
