Michael Strahan became one of the best defenders in NFL history during his time with the New York Giants, leading them to a Super Bowl win on his way to the Hall of Fame. But the former defensive end has stayed busy since his 2008 retirement, joining the NFL pregame show “Fox NFL Sunday” as an analyst and becoming a co-host of “Good Morning America.”
But before he became a television star, and even before he emerged as an NFL standout, Strahan made a name for himself at Texas Southern. From 1989 to 1992, he recorded 41.5 sacks, including 19 as a senior, on his way to earning an All-American nod. He went on to become a second-round pick in the 1993 NFL Draft before setting the NFL’s single-season sack record at 22.5.
For his dominance at the collegiate level, Strahan received a major honor this week with his induction into the NFF College Football Hall of Fame. He joins several college football legends in the 2025 class, including Virginia Tech’s Michael Vick, Alabama’s Nick Saban and Ohio State’s Urban Meyer, among 22 total inductees.
And on Wednesday’s edition of “GMA,” all the hosts congratulated the former Giants defender, including Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, Amy Robach, Lara Spencer and Ginger Zee. Strahan then expressed his appreciation for the Hall of Fame honor.
"Big honor," Strahan said. "You know, I really appreciate that. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to be in Vegas last night, but Chris Dishman, who was my coach at my alma mater, TSU, was there to accept the award on my behalf. And Chris was a great player himself. I'm honored that he was there and grateful that he went. Also, I'm grateful for everybody who voted for me. Thank you, makes me realize how old I am and how long ago college was."
While Strahan continues his role on the ABC morning show, he will be back on the air with Fox Sports on Sunday for the Week 15 slate of the 2025 NFL season.
