NFL legend Peyton Manning announces huge Bill Belichick ManningCast move

Former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick finally retired this offseason after nearly 40 years in the league. Now, he’ll be on TV with Peyton and Eli Manning when the NFL season starts.

Peyton announced the new development Friday, via The Pat McAfee Show.

“It was an easy pitch to Bill, because I said ‘Bill, we want you to come on. We’d love to go behind the ropes on the defensive side. What will the Eagles have to do to stop Patrick Mahomes? If you ever run out of things to say, just make fun of Eli. That’s always sort of a time filler. And Bill doesn’t like Eli, we all know that.”

Of course, Eli’s New York Giants defeated Bill’s Patriots in two different Super Bowls, so there may be some resentment to deal with on Bill’s end when they sit with each other.

“The idea is that Bill is going to be a permanent guest on every ManningCast show, early in the game, probably the first quarter, to kind of take people behind the ropes, as to what this defense has to do or what the quarterback’s challenges are,” Peyton continued. “Look, Tom Brady used to always tell me he would sit down with Belichick..and Bill would kind of tell Tom ‘let me tell you the basis of this defense, who’s the d-coordinator, here’s his history, here’s what they’re being taught Tom. So here’s what you need to try to do to overcome the holes in those defenses’…I think the audience is going to be fascinated at how smart he is.”

With Peyton and Eli providing more of an offensive perspective, having Belichick show off his defensive mind should be able to provide a good balance for the show. Will Belichick’s commentating career help change his reputation of being a robotic, introverted grump?

Peyton also mentioned how Belichick was witty and entertaining during the NFL Draft. The two-time Super Bowl champion had a point, as Belichick showed a more relaxed side of himself that didn’t come out as much during his coaching career, via The Pat McAfee Show.

Belichick, who was known for giving short and curt responses in press conferences, appears to finally be loosening up in his retirement phase. The 72-year-old was the type to keep his focus on football, with no extra noise ever phasing him. Now that he isn’t burdened with running a professional football organization, he may be less stressed and more relaxed.

Any football fan should be excited to watch Belichick put his knowledge on display on Monday nights throughout the regular season. The six-time Super Bowl champion knows just about every defensive look, style, and scheme that’s ever been used. Therefore, he’ll be able to break the game down at the highest level, explaining the intricacies behind every team’s strategy. It remains to be seen if he’ll forgive Eli for handing him two losses on the sport’s biggest stage.
